“‘Praja Shakthi’ should be the final program to eliminate poverty in the country,” says Minister Professor Chandana Aberathna.

He made this statement at a special district awareness program on the ‘Praja Shakthi’ national movement, aimed at eradicating rural poverty in the Puttalam District. The event was held at the Madampe Cooperative Hall under the patronage of Dr. Upali Pannilage of the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment.

Officials were briefed on the ‘Praja Shakthi’ national movement, which is based on strengthening the rural economy, including its main objectives, future activities, and how to identify and successfully implement development projects at the grassroots level.

Special attention was given to the process from preparing project reports to implementing them in practical reality, highlighting the potential to eliminate rural poverty through such efforts.

Expressing his views, the Minister stated that although the Puttalam District is rich in resources, the living standards of its people are still not satisfactory. He emphasized that changing this situation is a top priority of the government.

“As a citizen and as a Minister, I believe this should be the final development program to eliminate poverty,” he said. He further stressed that this project must be successfully implemented to ensure a better society for future generations.

He also highlighted that while major decisions can be made at higher levels, the real responsibility of understanding ground realities and involving the public in the development process lies with government officials at the village level.

For the year 2025, the government has introduced three key programs: ‘Clean Sri Lanka,’ digitalization, and poverty eradication. Under the guidance of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, special initiatives have been launched.

The ‘Praja Shakthi’ national movement is being implemented to eliminate rural poverty in Sri Lanka. The Minister pointed out that if the system change requested by the people is to be achieved, the rural economy must be strengthened.

The event was attended by political authorities of the Puttalam District, District Secretary Y. M. Silva, officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment, Divisional Secretaries, other government officials, and a large number of community leaders.

புத்தளம் மாவட்டத்தில் கிராமப்புற வறுமையை ஒழிக்கும் நோக்கில் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படும் ‘பிரஜா சக்தி’ தேசிய இயக்கம் தொடர்பான விசேட மாவட்ட விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்வில் அவர் இந்தக் கருத்தை வெளியிட்டார். இந்நிகழ்வு மாதம்பே கூட்டுறவு மண்டபத்தில், கிராமிய அபிவிருத்தி, சமூக பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் சமூக அதிகாரமளிப்பு அமைச்சின் டாக்டர் உபாலி பன்னிலகே அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்றது.

கிராமிய பொருளாதாரத்தை மேம்படுத்துவதை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்ட ‘பிரஜா சக்தி’ தேசிய இயக்கத்தின் முக்கிய நோக்கங்கள், எதிர்கால செயல்திட்டங்கள் மற்றும் அடிப்படை நிலைமையில் அபிவிருத்தி திட்டங்களை அடையாளம் கண்டு வெற்றிகரமாக நடைமுறைப்படுத்தும் வழிமுறைகள் குறித்து அதிகாரிகளுக்கு விளக்கமளிக்கப்பட்டது.

திட்ட அறிக்கைகள் தயாரிப்பது முதல் அவற்றை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தும் வரை உள்ள செயல்முறை குறித்து சிறப்பு கவனம் செலுத்தப்பட்டு, இதன் மூலம் கிராமப்புற வறுமையை ஒழிக்கக்கூடிய திறன் இருப்பதை வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது.

அமைச்சர் தனது கருத்துகளை வெளியிடுகையில், புத்தளம் மாவட்டம் வளமிக்கதாக இருந்தாலும் மக்களின் வாழ்க்கைத் தரம் இன்னும் திருப்திகரமாக இல்லை எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார். அந்த நிலையை மாற்றுவது அரசின் முக்கிய இலக்காகும் என்றும் தெரிவித்தார்.

“ஒரு குடிமகனாகவும், அமைச்சராகவும், வறுமையை ஒழிக்கும் இறுதி அபிவிருத்தி திட்டமாக இதை நான் நம்புகிறேன்” என அவர் கூறினார். எதிர்கால தலைமுறைக்கு நல்ல சமுதாயத்தை வழங்க இந்தத் திட்டம் கட்டாயம் வெற்றி பெற வேண்டும் என்றும் அவர் வலியுறுத்தினார்.

மேலும், முக்கிய தீர்மானங்களை எடுக்க முடிந்தாலும், தரை மட்டத்தில் உள்ள உண்மையான நிலைமைகளை புரிந்து கொண்டு மக்களை அபிவிருத்தி செயல்முறையில் இணைப்பது கிராம மட்ட அரச அதிகாரிகளின் பொறுப்பு என அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

2025 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்காக அரசு ‘க்ளீன் ஸ்ரீ லங்கா’, டிஜிட்டல் மயமாக்கல் மற்றும் வறுமை ஒழிப்பு ஆகிய மூன்று முக்கிய திட்டங்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது. ஜனாதிபதி அனுர குமார திசாநாயக்க அவர்களின் வழிகாட்டுதலின் கீழ் விசேட திட்டங்கள் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இலங்கையில் கிராமப்புற வறுமையை ஒழிக்க ‘பிரஜா சக்தி’ தேசிய இயக்கம் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. மக்கள் எதிர்பார்த்த அமைப்பு மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்த கிராமிய பொருளாதாரத்தை வலுப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என அமைச்சர் சுட்டிக்காட்டினார்.

இந்நிகழ்வில் புத்தளம் மாவட்ட அரசியல் அதிகாரிகள், மாவட்ட செயலாளர் வை. எம். சில்வா, அமைச்சின் அதிகாரிகள், பிரதேச செயலாளர்கள் மற்றும் பல அரச அதிகாரிகள், சமூக தலைவர்கள் ஆகியோர் பெருமளவில் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.
